Welcome Middle School Jazz Band Students!
FIRST REHEARSAL FOR SPRING 2019: THURSDAY, 2/7
Any middle school student is eligible to join jazz band.
We meet every Thursday from 2:45 to 4:15pm. The traditional jazz band has trumpets, trombones, and alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones plus a rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, and guitar). At NEST+m, any instrument is permitted; flutes and clarinets are always a part of our group. In the past, we've even had multiple oboe players!
We play standard jazz repertoire and all students are encouraged to develop their improvisational skills - but no one is forced to improvise (or "solo").
While the jazz band is really fun, it is a competitive group. We compete every June at the NYSSMA festival. In the past four years, we have walked away with three gold medals. We are looking for another gold medal next spring!
